At the beginning of the Eglinton Crosstown Project, four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) were used to dig the tunnels for the new transit line. In March 2017, pieces of TBM Don and TBM Humber were lifted out of the extraction shaft from the completed east tunnels, just east of Yonge Street on Eglinton Avenue. Starting from this week onwards, the site team will extract pieces of remaining TBMs, Dennis and Lea, from the west tunnels at Eglinton and Duplex. During the morning of March 9, the cutter head of one of the TBMs were lifted. Stay tuned for a time lapse video. The rest of the TBMs will be removed overnight from the site. Please see the construction notice on the website for details. |
